Homelessness charity Shelter has recently been running a poster campaign showing houses built of cards, as a measure to remind us how quickly people’s lives can fall apart and homes be lost when things go wrong. To support the campaign, Shelter has also commissioned 53 playing cards from artists, which will be exhibited at the Haunch of Venison gallery in London, starting tomorrow, September 25th.
All works will be auctioned off on Monday to benefit Shelter, including the winner of a public competition to design the 8 of clubs, below. There are also cards by Amelia’s Magazine artists and Damien Hirst.

Saw Amelia’s magazine piece yesterday and thought it was one of the strongest pieces there, and what a priviledge to be in the same exhibition as damien hirst, rachel whiteread, vivienne westwood, michael craig-martin and loads of other truly amazing pieces. A stunningly simple and well executed exhibiton. Nice one!!
Thank you for featuring my winning card design for the ‘Eight of Clubs’ in your article. I am very proud to have been a part of SHELTER’s House of Cards campaign and the exhibition at the haunch of Venison Gallery. I would urge anyone who hasn’t yet to snap up the remaining packs of A5 art cards – great collectors items and all proceeds go to SHELTER… Also remember that all the artworks in the exhibition are being auctioned on Monday 28th September 2009 to raise further funds for SHELTER – a great chance to get your hands on a piece of art history.
