The Secret Life of the Pencil
An artistic celebration of the simple tool which unlocks so much of humankind’s potential. Open exhibition and charity auction at Paul Smith flagship shop in central London starts 20 May.
Wed 20th May 2015 – Wed 3rd June 2015
9 Albemarle Street, London W1S 4BL
The Secret Life of the Pencil is a unique photography project which reveals the secrets within the pencils of some of the world’s leading creative individuals, including Sir Quentin Blake, Lord Foster, Stephen Fry, Sir Paul Smith and David Bailey. The pencils are presented in incredible and striking detail using an innovative and beautiful photographic technique.
A selection of the single-edition, mounted and framed photographs, to include the donated celebrity pencil where supplied, will be auctioned in support of charity Children in Crisis, from May 19 through June 3 online at Paddle8. There’s also an opportunity to purchase, in store, limited-edition prints of the photographs, which Paul Smith is selling in aid of Children in Crisis.
Mike Tinney and Alex Hammond are the co-creators of the project. They have reached beyond their founding disciplines of design and photography in order to create hyper-real images of the everyday.
Opening times: Monday-Wednesday 10.00-18.00, Thursday-Saturday 10.00-19.00, Sunday 12.00-18.00
