Wiola Wolczynska A/W 2011 by Michalis Christodoulou.
Wiola Wo?czy?ska kicked off the Off Out of Schedule on Saturday morning with a collection that was a taste of things to come… overly long and massively in need of a serious edit. There was nice styling with side swept hair and calf length socks, more about but it went on… forever… and most of the looks were incredibly similar.

Then one model fell over due to ill-fitting shoes – which was again a precedent for other shows. But oh my was the setting amazing – all the Off Out Of Schedule shows took place in Bielnik and Elektrownia at Podsiad?o Ksiezy Mlyn – a ramshackle old textiles factory that is typical of the fantastic industrial architectural style of ?ód?. It really was a venue like no other I have seen. More photos of that to come…
Whilst I liked the draping, web subtle colouring and asymmetric shapes this show was overly commercial for an Off Schedule event and some of the fabrics appeared to be of poor quality – a big no no on the catwalk. It’s a shame because there really was the kernel of something special here, and if it was more finely refined I could see it appealing to more sophisticated fashion palettes in a jiffy. It’s perhaps no surprise to learn that Wiola Wo?czy?ska is a stylist as well as fashion designer, and has participated in a workshop with Central Saint Martins. She also won a heap of awards at last year’s Golden Thread.

This is just a small selection of the enormous collection. My advice to Wiola Wo?czy?ska? Edit edit edit… and have a bit more fun. Go on! It’s your chance to wow…

Finding these Poland fashion week articles very interesting.
The venue does look absolutely amazing and I do rather like the styling on the whole, but the critical comments make interesting reading
Thanks hon. I didn’t see much point in not saying as I think really… I hope it will be of help to some of the designers!
Thanks for your observations. I will work harder:-) I am really wonderring which fabrics you think were poor quality because all of them had really good yarn and best quality I could order. Honestly speaking collection supposed to be commercial because otherwise I would not be able to sell it in Poland
Polish Elle and Instyle were very interested in collection. It will be published in July in Instyle.Chef Editor of Elle already bought few positions of collection. Well maybe that means we are bakwards…:-(
Hi Wiola, thanks for leaving a comment on my website! I do not mean to be too harsh about anyone I saw at Fashion Week Poland because I had a great time, but I hope my points can be taken constructively by those who read them. I merely describe things as I see them from my point of view, having been to many fashion shows in the UK. I understand that the market is different in Poland, but in order to stand out on a global stage I do think that many designers need to better consider how their catwalk shows portray their collection. I very much liked your clothes but there were too many of the same thing to make an impact. Less is always more on the catwalk where I come from – buyers can be shown the entire collection at a later point. In terms of fabrics, I can’t remember too well but I think it was probably the jerseys that looked a bit thin – which maybe what the market wants but to me came across as poor quality. But I’d have to watch the collection again to be sure as it was a good month ago now! PS for an idea of the wow factor just take a look at some of these recent graduate shows: http://www.ameliasmagazine.com/fashion/central-saint-martins-ba-fashion-graduate-show-2011-review-the-winners/2011/06/07/
All the best, Amelia x
