Leeds based duo The Horn The Hunt have been locked away in a studio in Greenland in the middle of nowhere for three months creating anthemic pop music interlaced with elements of grunge, and today Clare Carter and Joseph Osborne release new single Starless, accompanied by a beautiful cover of the Neil Young song Heart of Gold. Both are taken from the upcoming album Terrafidella, due for release later this year.
Lead singer Clare Carter is also an artist (view her work here) who is involved in all the visual elements of the band, including their costumes, stage props and projections. The official video for Starless was shot in Langsett Reservoir, South Yorkshire and reflects the psychedelic aspects of the song with colourful kaleidoscope effects and explosions. Singer Clare describes the making of the video here:
Starless began in the hills of the Massif Central in France. I was visiting family, it was New Year’s Eve and the night sky was disappointingly cloudy. It seemed to really magnify how I was feeling – lost, tired and unsure about the future. The song is about losing touch with yourself by sacrificing your pleasures for something you believe in, something that’s pretty much out of your control.
The Horn The Hunt by Louise Boulter.
The video was shot in a remote valley near where I grew up in Yorkshire. I used to imagine all kinds of stories in that valley. The black and white scenes are a bit like when you analyse your life in the cold light of day, and the colourful nature stuff is my imagination trying to make magic happen.
You can see The Horn The Hunt perform at the Live at Leeds The Unconference Presents: The AIM Social & Access To Music Funding Event at the Brudenell Social Club, Leeds on 9th April and in London at The Old Blue Last on 14th April 2014.
